After Saturdays heroics against the Flames, the DALROD sponsored Peterborough Phantoms travelled to Bracknell on Sunday to face the Bees. Whilst the Bees may be rooted to the bottom of the League table, they did pick up an impressive win against the Sheffield Steeldogs at home the previous night, so this wasn’t going to be an easy game.
It was the Bees who started the stronger of the two teams, outshooting their visitors by 2:1 in the opening period, however the Phantoms tactics of containing the attacks and looking for the breakaways was working well.
It took nearly 30 minutes before the opening goal of the game was scored when Edgars Bebris pounced on Marc Levers pass to fire past Alex Mettam in the Bees goal.
The goal didn’t stop the Bees attacking style of play and Janis Auzins, in the Phantoms goal, was called upon time after time to prevent the Bees drawing level.
The final period saw Pavel Strycek, Radek Hubacek and Ivan Antonov all go close for the Bees, before Phantoms secured the points on 56.09 when Milan Baranyk finally found a way past Mettam. Bee’s pulled Mettam for the final 90 seconds of the game, laying siege to the Phantoms goal, but the defence stood tall and the Phantoms came away with a 4 point weekend.
Man of the Match went to Alex Mettam for the Bees and Janis Auzins for the Phantoms
