The DALROD sponsored Peterborough Phantoms fell to a 4-3 deeat at the hands of the Swindon Wildcats on Sunday evening.

The visitors took the lead, against the run of play, early in the opening period when Stephen Whitfield shot deceived Janis Auzins in the Phantoms goal and looped over his glove at 7.34.

Phantoms replied with two quick goals at the back end of the period to give them a 2-1 lead at the break. First it was Milan Baranyk who brought the homeside level when he fired in from an acute angle on 14.47. Phantoms Captain, James Ferrara, then helped the Phantom stake the lead on 16.25 as he fired a thunderous shot past the stranded Stevie Lyle.

Phantoms made it 3-1 on 24.09 when Luke Ferrara slotted hom Darius Pliskauska’s pass, as their first powerplay of the night came to an end.

The Wildcats pulled a goal back to make it 3-2 on 30.49 as Alex Symonds fired past Auzins from the top of the slot. the goal lifted the visitors who controlled the middle period.

The Wildcats were level on 47.31 when with Edgars Apelis sitting and Interference penalty, Aaron Nell slipped the puck past Auzins. Nell was involved in the final gol of the game when on 56.41 his fierce shot couldn’t be held by Auzins and the rebound was snapped up by Jan Kostal to secure a victory for the visitors.

Results elsewhere meant the the Phantoms retained their 2nd position in the league for another week.

Man of the Match went to Thomasz Malasinski for the Wildcats and Tom Norton for the Phantoms.
