The DALROD sponsored Peterborough Phantoms traveled to Wiltshire on Saturday evening to take on the Swindon Wildcats in a crucial game for both sides.

The game got off to a frantic pace as the Phantoms looked to dominate early on and control the game. It was a gameplan the executed tothe letter, with four opening period goals stunning the homeside.

An early Phantoms powerplay, allowed Edgers Bebris to score the opening goal after just 54 seconds with a nice one timed attempt from James Ferrara’s pass.

Just under 6 minutes later and the Phantoms doubled their lead. Phantoms new signing, Donastas Kumeliauskas, waltzed through the Swindon forwards before beating the screened Stevie Lyle in the Swindon goal.

Swindon were lost for ideas, but despite hotting the bar they couldn’t find a way past Janis Auzins in the Peterborough net.  It was 3-0 on 9.24 when another Edgars Bebris attack finished with a beautiful pass across the goal to Milan Baranyk who was unmarked at the back post and fired the puck high into the back of the Swindon goal.

Surprisingly Wildcats Head Coach Ryan Aldridge didn’t call a time-out and he was punished once more when the Phantoms made it 4-0 at the break when Milan Baranyk turned provider with a pass to Scott Robson that left Lyle no chance.

The second period saw both teams attacking and Lyle and Auzins being kept busy, but with Phantoms enjoying a 4 goal lead and Wildcats chasing the game, the period remained scoreless.

The Wildcats did finally get on the scoresheet late in the final period. After 55 minutes of trying they finally beat Janis Auzins when youngster Toms Rutkis fired low past Auzins on a rare Swindon Powerplay.

Phantoms response was to finish the night with a powerplay goal of their own with just 17 seconds of the game remaining when a Kumeliauskas shot was redirected by Will Weldon past Lyle to make the final score 5-1 to the Phantoms.

Man of the Match went to Jan Kostal for Swindon and Milan Baranyk for the Phantoms.
