The DALROD sponsored Peterborough Phantoms traveled to Milton Keynes on Boxing Day to face the Lightning and came away on the wrong end of a 4-2 scoreline.
An early skirmish between Lightning Jack Watkins and Phantoms Will Weldon set the tone for this local derby, with Watkins sitting 2 minutes for a Cross Check whilst Weldon sat 2 minutes for roughing.
Two quick Phantoms penalties gave the home side the advantage and a quick 2 goal lead. With Brad Moore and Tom Norton in the box Tahtinen converted Frankie Bakrliks pass to open the scoring on 13.30. With Phantoms regaining one player back the Lightning doubled their lead when Frankie Bakrlik this time fired a Blue Line slapshot past Auzins, after being fed the puck by Martti Jarventie.
Phantoms started the second period the stronger of the two sides and they halved the defecit on 22.55 when Lloyd Gibsons shot trickled over the line, after Lightning netminder Dean Skinns thought he had killed the puck.
Former Phantom Lewis Hook netted the Lightnings third of the night on 25 minutes. Blaz Emersic gave the puck the the GB Under 20’s star, who put the puck into the top corner of the Phantoms goal.
Darius Pliskauskas and James Ferrara both had chances for the Phantoms before Will Weldon drew the game back to 3-2 on 36 minutes.
Phantoms came out looking for the equaliser in the final period, but whilst they were causing Skinns trouble at one end of the ice, Frantisek Bakrlik was causing Janis Auzins as many problems at the other end.
Despite a lot of Phantoms pressure, it was Milton Keynes who scored the final goal of the game when Man of the Match Bakrlik fired past Auzins from distance on 56 minutes.
Phantoms did pull Auzins or the final minute for the extra skater, but couldn’t make the advantage pay.
Man of the Match went to Lloyd Gibson for the Phantoms and Frantisek Bakrlik for the Lightning.
