The DALROD sponsored Peterborough Phantoms met their EPL Cup Final opponents on Sunday evening, when the Guildford Flames visited the Peterborough Arena.

The game saw the Phantoms take an early advantage, before being pegged back by the visitors and eventually it took Overtime to settle the game.

The opening period was littered with penalties as both teams found themselves in the penalty box, and it wasn’t until the last minute of the period that the nights opening goal was scored. With 36 seconds remaining in the period Milan Baranyk fired home Craig Scotts lay-off to beat Richard Ullberg in the Flames goal and give the Phantoms a big psychological advantage.

Just 5 minutes into the middle stanza and it was a 2 goal game when young James White finished off a Phantoms attack and slotted the puck under Ullberg.

The Flames finally got onto the scoreboard late on in the period when Jan Eriksson, who had been a frequent visitor to the penalty box, finally made amends on 39.48 to make it 2-1 going into the final 20 minutes.

Two quick goals saw the momentum swing in favour of the Flames. Andrew McKinney drew the visitors level on 42 minutes, before Janis Ozolins gave them the lead for the first time on 45 minutes.

Phantoms then saw James White dismissed from the game for an accidental High Sticks on 50 minutes, but buoyed on by a large home crowd the Phantoms refused to give in.

On 54 minutes the Phantoms in-form pairing of Milan Baranyk and Craig Scott combined for Scott to level the game, and eventually send the game to Overtime.

Overtime lasted just 27 seconds as Tom Duggan fed the puck to Ben Campbell who fired past Auzins to give the visitors the extra point.

Man of the Match went to Tom Duggan for the Flames and Milan Baranyk for the Phantoms.
