The Peterborough DALROD Phantoms are delighted to announce Ben Russell will be in Phantoms colours next season.

The 22 year old, Milton Keynes born defence man will be most certainly aware of the history of the Phantoms vs. Milton Keynes rivalry, with Russell being on the other side as a Lightening player over the years.

Russell will be joining Peterborough after a season with Manchester Phoenix.

He already has an impressive CV for his age, having spent a few years in Canada with the Ontario East AAA minor League and Western State Hockey League gaining valuable experience.

To add to Bens list of achievements, he has also had the pleasure of representing Great Britain at under 18’s and 20’s level.

Phantoms Head coach Slava Koulikov commented on Russell’s acquisition “We are very pleased to have Ben in our organisation, Ben is only 22 but already has become an experienced British D man.

“He played his juniors career in Canada and the last three seasons in the EPL. I believe last season in Manchester under some very good/strict coaching, Tony Hand brought the best out of him and has developed Ben in to a solid D’ man.

“I spoke to Ben few times in the last couple of years. He is an intelligent person, has the mentality that we look for in order to be a Phantom and he is going to fit well in our dressing room. I am looking forward to working with him”.

Russell also commented on his move to Phantoms “I’m excited to get started with the Phantoms. Growing up in MK, Peterborough was always the team that has rivalled my own, so it’s exciting to be on the other side.

“After speaking with Slava, I liked the direction he wants to go in and how he is looking achieve this and take this team forward on to silverware.

“Making the decision to come to Phantoms is an easy one to. I will be closer to home, with less travelling than last year which is a massive plus for me.

“I’m not a flashy player but I pride myself on doing the little things that contribute to winning games. I won’t score too many goals but I’ll always try to stop them being scored on us through working hard, blocking shots and getting in the corners.”

We all welcome Ben to the team.
