The Peterborough DALROD Phantoms are pleased to announce two new additions to the dedicated coaching staff for the 2016/17 season.

As the EPL gets even stronger and with the last couple of season it’s been proven more than ever, that having good strong coaching team around you is vital. At the end of last season we said good bye to Alex, who has returned to the Ukraine to a Head Coach position, and Lee who will be relocating back home to the United States in July. We are although pleased to announce we will still have involvement from Lee from across the pond, where he will be taking on the role as The Phantoms Video Analysts. This role is essential to the coaching team on the Ice and at games to provide information that will put the Phantoms a head each game.

Lee commented on his position within the Phantoms “After the last three seasons the Phantoms are more family to me now than just a hockey team. When Slava offered the opportunity to be involved again as a coach, even though across an ocean, I didn’t hesitate. Im looking forward to supporting the team, Slava and the new coaches and helping this team to strive towards greatness. “

Jason Buckman, is familiar face around Peterborough Planet Ice and no stranger to Peterborough hockey. This season he will be turning his attentions to assisting Slava in his coaching duties. The new Assistant Coach has shown potential and his wish to pursue a coaching career after he retired from playing with the Phantoms at the end of last season. Jason will specialise in working with the Defence unit and younger players of the team.

Transition from player to coach began last season, before Jason had even stopped playing. This then gave him the opportunity to hit the ground running with his new venture for the 2016/17 campaign. Working with the players and plans for the season are in full swing, meaning the summer months have already been busy.

Jason also commented on joining as Assistant Coach ” I am delighted to have been approached by Slava for this new and exciting new chapter in my hockey career, and still be involved after my playing career.
Coaching is something I have always been interested in, but playing has always taken precedence . Now it’s time for a new challenge and to learn under Slava, helping him and the team to succeed.

Buckman continues ” The season ahead will be tough, as it will be for all the other nine teams in the league. But the Phantoms team really are shaping up to be an exciting team, with a new vision and hunger. I can’t wait for the season to start!”

In addition to our new look coaching team, we are delighted to welcome Strengthening and Conditioning Coach, Stuart Edwards. Stu helped with last year’s pre season camp, and guested at different periods of the season. This year Stu has been brought on as a permanent recruit to help improve the fitness and condition of our players, making them the best they can be on the ice.
With over 13 years experience with many sports teams, including Northampton Saints Rugby Club, and we know with the many qualifications ranging from being a GP referral Specialist, Strengthening and Conditioning Coach and Gym Instructor to name a few, we are in extremely professional hands.

Stu commented on his new venture with the Phantoms “I am looking forward to working alongside Slava and the rest of the coaching team and helping the team achieve their goals for this season.
My aim is to not only improve them as Hockey players through educating them in the right exercise and diet, but to help develop them into all round athletes. I am excited to be working with not only existing players but also the new players coming into the squad.
From the few times we have all met up in the off season already, I can see the hunger and desire to improve and succeed on last season. They all have the attributes to make a great team.”

Head Coach Slava Koulikov commented on the new additions and roles to his coaching staff “In the past few seasons, Lee’s input in to the team has been invaluable. So I am pleased Lee has decided to stay with us, as part of the coaching staff. Although this is a slightly different role for Lee, we still believe his expertise and knowledge will still be a benefit to the team from across the water.
In addition we have two new coaches that will be joining the team this season. Jason Buckman “Bucky” I am pleased to see him join me on the bench, running our defence. Aside from already understanding our systems and how things work at the club, Jason has tremendous knowledge and passion for the game. The transition to the coaching side was the natural next step in his career. In addition to being responsible for our d-men, Jason will be mentoring our development players as the transition into the EPL.”

Slava Continues “We also welcome on board Stu Edwards, who will be invaluable to the fitness of the guys. With Stu’s qualification and experience we could not think of a better person to make sure our players are prepared Physically for the season.
Stu first worked with the team during our preseason camp and we were impressed with how the players benefited from his training.
We are already noticing a major improvement to his heavy involvement in the training with the guys this summer and we look forward to what else he will bring this season.

I am looking forward to working with the new coaching staff for the up and coming season, and I am excited to see what we as a team can accomplish.”
