The Peterborough DALROD Phantoms and Peterborough DALROD Islanders are delighted to announce the date for their End of Season Awards.
On Thursday 13th April, the Phantoms and Islanders will be coming together to celebrate the 2016/17 season. Although Islanders will still be playing in their Play Off games, the regular season will be finished. Phantoms will have just completed their Play Off race, where hopefully we will be celebrating with silverware and what a fantastic season the Phantoms have had on the ice.
This season will be the last as The Peterborough DALROD Islanders, before they take on the Phantoms name next season becoming the NIHL2 Peterborough DALROD Phantoms.
The Peterborough Phantoms organisation has been working very hard over the last few years to bring Peterborough Hockey together and run as a professional development club, from the bottom all the way up to the top, with the Academy, NIHL2 and EPL all working together to make hockey in Peterborough successful.
The Islanders were founded in 1996 by Grant Budd, a player with links to the Falkland Islands, With several Peterborough Pirates players dropping down to join the islanders and Julian Penczek the Peterborough Ice Hockey Club chairman. Grant’s parents were the original team strips sponsors, this being the first jersey to carry the crest of the Falkland Islands, and reason behind the name. Terry Higgins a long time hockey fan helped finically with others to support the new islanders.
The vision was for the club to provide a basis for young ice hockey players to develop and move on to senior leagues, in particular up to the senior team Peterborough Pirates/Phantoms, and for senior players to continue playing at a competitive level and drop down levels as they look to come to the end of their careers.
Islanders are currently competing for 3 trophies, League, Cup and Play Off. Islanders are sitting in first position, 12 points clear of Chelmsford Warriors, and can statistically win the league as early as the 4th March when they play Lee Valley Lions at Home.
In keeping with the Islanders philosophy, the Phantoms organisation will be bringing all levels of Peterborough Hockey into one, with the same name and jersey design. This in turn will help development and the pride remain within Phantoms from the youngest, to the senior level.
This year’s awards will be held at the Holiday Inn West on Thursday 13th April, arrival is from 7pm. Changing the venue allows us to increase capacity and join the Phantoms and Islanders presentation evening together. On the evening the new jerseys for the 2017/18 season will be revealed for both teams and as always we will have some great player signings announcements.
Tickets are now available at £25 each, this includes a hot & cold buffet, Awards Ceremony and we will be free to party and dance the night away with a disco till 1am.
