The Waldeck Peterborough Phantoms were narrowly beaten by the Telford Tigers on home ice on Saturday night.

Phantoms started well and went close to taking the lead, but Tom Norton, Ralfs Circenis and Ivan Björkly Nordström all saw efforts saved by Brad Day.

They hit the front with 6:16 played as Louie Kynaston tipped home a Jasper Foster effort for his first goal for the senior Peterborough Phantoms!

But the Telford Tigers hit back just over two minutes later when Nick Oliver sent Jesse Sutton in on a breakaway and the import forward went upstairs on the backhand to beat Jordan Marr.

The visitors got themselves ahead with 4:35 played in the middle period through Archie Hazeldine, before Sutton notched his second of the night just after the mid-way point.

Phantoms reduced the deficit back down to one with just under six minutes to play in the period, when Austin Mitchell-King found Luke Ferrara on the back post and he lifted his effort over Day and into the net.

That was the end of the scoring despite several big chances for the Phantoms in the third period. The first fell the way of Foster, who rung the crossbar with an effort from the left circle.

The next went to Mitchell-King who sprung on the breakaway and shot for the top corner, only to be denied by Day.

Björkly Nordström also had a breakaway before the end of the game but he also found Day in inspired form in the Tigers’ goal.

Phantoms pulled the goalie with 58 seconds to play and then found themselves on a powerplay, but ultimately fell short, unable to capitalise on the opportunity in the dying seconds.
