The WALDECK Peterborough Phantoms are delighted to announce Peterborough born defenseman, Billy Thorpe, has signed a THREE YEAR contract extension!
The 19-year-old joined the Phantoms in the 2021/22 season at just age 17, and has since gone on to play 133 games in a Phantoms jersey. This season Billy has not only shown his great defensive skills, but has also had a breakthrough season on points, gaining 12 points and tripling the season before.
Head Coach Slava Koulikov commented : “ Really happy to have Billy with us again and continue watching him grow.
Billy is very coachable, he wants to improve all the time and from day one always takes things on board, works hard in practice and executes in games.
Over the last two seasons, Billy has grown in to our D core, becoming a very reliable Defenceman and being solid on and off the puck. Due to injuries this season, we had to rely even more on Billy, playing him in some big situations 5 on 5 & PK, and I feel very confident when he is on the ice against top forwards in the league.
We want to push Billy even more this summer as he has a big season ahead with the Phantoms and GB!”
Billy’s new contract extension means he will be sporting a Phantoms jersey until the 2026/27 season, and we couldn’t be happier!
Billy Thorpe has the following to say on his re-signing : “It was a no brainer to stay in Peterborough for another three years! It’s a great club and its a place where I feel I can improve and grow my game with the kind of people I have around me here. I look forward to the years to come here at Peterborough and hopefully we can win as much as possible and I can grow as a player. See you next season Phantoms fans!”
