The DALROD sponsored Peterborough Phantoms travelled to Dumfries on Saturday to face the Solway Sharks in their penultimate EPL Cup game. The Phantoms travelled without their imports, aswell as James Ferrara, Luke Ferrara, James Hutchinson and Mason Webster. Brad Moore, James White, Connor Stokes and Nathan Pollard from the Islanders were drafted in for the weekends action.

After last Sundays defeat to the Sharks, the Phantoms couldn;t have gotten off to a worse start when after just 20 seconds Struan Tonnar fired through Dan Lane in the Phantoms goal to give the homeside the early lead.

The Phantoms regrouped and just 28 seconds later James White got on the end of Edgars Bebris’ pass to level the scores, firing over Gary Russells shoulder, in the Sharks net.

The remaining 19 minutes of the opening period saw the Phantoms control the game, with Sharks content to sit back and try to catch the Phantoms on the breakaway.

Two quick goals in the middle period saw the Phantoms step up a gear as first Slava Koulikov made it 2-1 on 31 minutes before Cam McGiffin made it 3-1 on 36 minutes. Phantoms lost youngster Martins Susters with a shoulder injury midway through the game, which will rule him out of Sundaysb trip to Blackburn.

The Sharks weren’t going to give up that easily, and with 4 seconds of the period remaining Marc Fowley popped up to to claim the Sharks second of the night and make it a 3-2 game going into the final period.

Phantoms maintained the pressure in the final 20 minutes, with Russell being called upon to prevent Edgars Bebris, Marc Levers and James White from increasing the Phantoms lead. The visitors did finally find a way past Russell in the 57th minute when Slava Koulikov found Bebris who shot past the stationary Russell in the Sharks goal.

A 10 minute misconduct call on Marc Levers towards the end of the game took him over the number of penalty points and he will now sit out a 2 game ban.
