The DALROD sponsored Peterborough Phantoms suffered a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of the Milton Keynes Lightning on Sunday evening.

The game saw the Phantoms missing Scpott Robson, Marc Levers and Janis Auzins, with Adam Long being given the starting slot between the pipes.

An even opening period saw the Phantoms take control of the game before the Lightning started to apply the pressure in the second half. Adam Long was stopping everything that the Lightning were throwing at him, including a great pad save from Edward Knaggs blueline slapshot, which was quickly followed by a double pad save from Blas Emersic.

As Long carried on thwarting the Lightning attacks the confidence in the Phantoms started to grow.

Lightning took the lead early in the second period. Lewis Hook fed the puck to Blas Emersic who’s onetimer beat Long in the Phantoms goal.

Despite going a goal behind the Phantoms kept on fighting with Milan Baranyk and Darius Pliskauskas both coming close to equalising and Lloyd Gibson causing a nuisance around Skinns goal.

The final period saw the Lightning sit back and rely on Hook and Bakrlik to sit on the blueline and hit the Phantoms on the breakaway. The Phantoms kept the Lightning camped in their zone, and when they did attack the Phantoms defence stood tall to clear the puck and regroup.

Lightning 2nd goal came late in the game, whilst the Phantoms were on the powerplay. A mix-up on the boards saw the puck break to Bobby Chamberlain who was allowed to skate in and fire past Long.

Phantoms thought they had pulled a goal back with a late scramble in front of Skinns goal, but it wasn’t to be at the game ended at 2-0.

Man of the Match went to James Griffin for the Lightning and Milan Baranyk for the Phantoms. Next up is the EPL Cup Semi-Final 1st Leg on Wednesday night in Milton Keynes.
