The DALROD sponsored Peterborough Phantoms made it 3 wins on the bounce on Saturday with a 4-1 victory over the Bracknell Bees.
Craig Scott terrorised the Bees defence and netminder Alex Mettam and continued his scoring streak. After a hatrick on Wednesday in the Cup Semi-Final victory over the Milton Keynes Lightning, Scott picked up 2 more goals on Saturday.
Craig Scott netted his first of the night on 1.48 when he teamed up with Milan Baranyk to fire past Mettam.
Just minutes later Scott found himself in front of Mettam with the puck, but he couldn’t quite lift it over the sprawling netty.
Scott did find the back of the net for his 5th straight goal of the week, on 4.20, when his partnership with Milan Baranyk again reaped rewards for the Phantoms.
As the clock ran down for the opening period Scott looked to have scored his second hatrick of the week, but Mettam somehow managed to kick the puck out of the air, whilst spreadeagled on the ground to keep the game at 2-0 at the first break.
Phantoms netted their 3rd goal 3 1/2 minutes into the middle period, when Darius Pliskauskas added his name to the scoring column of the gamesheet. Pliskauskas looked to lob the puck towards the Bees Goal, but Mettam lost sight of it and was rooted to the spot as the puck slowly looped over his shoulder and into the back of the net.
Mettam redeemed himself midway through the period when denying Milan Baranyk on the breakaway wit ha fine pad save.
Bees did get themselves on the scoresheet, and prevent a second consecutive Jans Auzins shutout when Captain Matt Foord converted Milan Kostoureks pass on 36 minutes.
The goal of the game came on 40.21 when Darius Pliskauskas, James Ferrara and Lloyd Gibson skated through the Bees defence, neatly exchanging passes before Gibson slotted the puck past Mettam for the Phantoms 4th and final goal of the night. The goal signalled the end of Janis Auzins game, as Phantoms Coach Slava Koulikov rested the Latvian Netminder in favour of youngster Adam Long.
At 4-1 the Phantoms took a back seat and were content to sit back on their lead. Tom Norton had to clear the puck off the line on 54 minutes to prevent a 2nd Bees goal, but the game was never at risk and as the buzzer sounded it was the Phantoms who took the points with the 4-1 win.
Man of the Match went to Ivan Antonov for the Bees and Craig Scott for the Phantoms.
