The DALROD sponsored Peterborough Phantoms suffered a 4-3 defeat on the road on Saturday when they traveled to Swindon.
Phantoms had taken the lead midway through the opening period when Milan Baranyk fired past Stevie Lyle, who was making hos return after being away with GB at the Olympic Pre-Qualification tournament the previous week.
Two quick goals for the Wildcats at th start of the middle period gave them a lead they held onto for the remainder of the game. Tomasz Malinski scored their first of the night on the powerplay on 21 minutes, after Phantoms Cam McGiffin was adjudged a hooking penalty.
A minute later it was 2-1 to the homeside as Janis Hoog fired past Janis Auzins in the Phantoms goal.
A Phantoms powerplay on 28 minutes saw Scott Robson pull the visitors level, but when Lloyd Gibson was penalised for tripping on 32 minutes, Janis Hoog punished the Phantoms with his second of the night to make it 3-2 at the second intermission.
The final period was just 18 seconds old when Matt Selby was called for a Tripping penalty by referee Stephen Matthews, but it was the Wildcats who took the advantage as player coach Aaron Nell fired home from the blueline for a shorthanded goal.
With just over 2 minutes of the game remaining, Janis Auzins was pulled in favour of the extra skater and almost immediately Will Weldon fired past Lyle to make it 4-3.
A tense final two minutes saw Auzins remain on the bench, but the Phantoms couldn’t make the extra man work to their advantage and as the buzzer sounded it was the WIldcats who claimed the points.
