The DALROD Peterborough Phantoms are delighted to announce British forward Sam Towner will be joining the Phantoms for the 2016/17 season.

The Yorkshire based 21 year old forward, has some fantastic attributes and statistics for a man of his age. Sam started his junior career in Sheffield, but has spent the majority of his hockey career in a Hull shirt. With an impressive three full seasons with the Elite League Hull Stingrays. Additionally Towner has also taken the honours of being a Gold Medalist for GB under 20’s in 2015 at the Tallinn tournament in Estonia.

Slava Koulikov commented on Towner’s signing “I have followed Sam’s development for a few years now, all coaches that worked with him, Clouts and Pacha at Stingrays, Peter Russell at GB level and Ex- Owner of Stingray Bobby McEwen have all told me one thing – He is a true professional”.

“I wanted to bring Sam in for the past three years, but situations made it not the right time. Last year we managed to agree terms with Sam, but after Stingrays pulled out the Elite League, and the newly formed EPL Hull Pirates were trying to produce a team in time we wanted to help and by mutual agreement, Sam stayed in Hull.”

Slava continues “Sam is a smart two way hockey player, who can play in all offensive positions and is very mature for his age . The fans will love his never die attitude and I am very happy finally we have him with us!”

Towner commented on his new venture to the Phantoms – “When Slava got in touch after the season, it was a bit of a no brainer really. The move now fits in well with what I am trying to achieve outside of hockey as well as my hockey career. The success the club has enjoyed over the last couple of years was something from the outside looking in, definitely interested me. Now I’m signed I am excited to be a part of it.

“Hopefully we can build on last year with the team getting so close to silverware, and hopefully I can contribute to the team going one step further and picking up a trophy or trophy’s.

“In terms of what I’ll bring to the team, I’ll always give 100% every night, and I consider myself to be a team first guy. I hope to progress my career further here at Peterborough and hopefully contribute with more points.”
