The Peterborough DALROD Phantoms, Sponsored by Smart Solutions Group are pleased to announce Ben Russell will be returning to the Phantoms for the 2017/18 season.

The Milton Keynes based defenseman, is returning for a second season as a Phantom. Ben spent his junior career in MK, before heading across the ocean for two seasons in Canada within the Midget AAA league as well as a season with Ogden Mustangs in the US.

The 23-year-old had a tough last season after suffering a head concussion injury mid-way through the campaign. This saw him take time out of the game to completely recover before starting his rehabilitation by icing and training with the Phantoms NIHL2 team. This helped him to regain his strength and fitness before re-taking his position on the blue line again for the senior side.

Head Coach Slava Koulikov commented “I am really excited to have Ben back in the Phantoms this upcoming season.

Ben is intelligent two-way defenseman, he can create play and make plays happen. His competitive level is always high, which is something all coaches look for in a player.

He is great team mate who did a good job keeping things simple last year and I look forward to working with him again.”

Ben also commented about his return to Phantoms and his thoughts on the new league

I’m delighted to be back at Peterborough for another year. There were a few decisions to make with the league change however after speaking with Slava, I have a good feeling that the team we have will be serious contenders for silverware this year. Although I’ve only been in Peterborough for a year, I love the club and the fans and enjoy the style of hockey we play, so for me it was a no brainer when I was asked back.

I’m excited for the new league. A new league means new teams and new players. I think it will be good to travel to places I personally haven’t played at a senior level and compete against teams we wouldn’t have normally competed against. All the teams are looking strong, so I think it will be a great test. I’m excited for the season and after seeing the roster Slava has put together, it is something for everyone to be excited about and I can’t wait to get back with the boys and get to work come September
