The Peterborough DALROD Phantoms, Sponsored by Smart Solutions Group are pleased to announce the Peterborough trained netminder, Adam Long will be defending the Phantoms goals next season.

Adam Long, the 21-year-old local netminder, has proven himself over the past two seasons to have improved significantly under the training of Janis Auzins. You only have to watch Adam’s style to see that he has picked up on Janis’s style of play.

The young man in turn has now earnt himself a two-way contract with MK Lightning, being named as their third netminder within the Elite League. Adam will be training with MK during the week, which will continue to improve Adams game as well develop him to be a top Brit goalie.

Head Coach Slava Koulikov commented on Adams return to the Phantoms pipes Adam is a good goalie, his improvement during his two years with us has been outstanding and every time he has been called upon, he has delivered.

He is another player who will be on two-way in MK, working with Peter and Elite League players to develop his game to the next level. This is a natural progression, he has learned a lot from Janis and now ready to take on the starting role and I know he is up for it!”.

Peter Russell MK Lightening Head Coach is fully supportive of the development in the UK, commenting “We are delighted to welcome Adam Long to the Milton Keynes Lightning organisation. Over the past couple of seasons, Adam has worked hard and really developed as a goalie. He has good size, stays square and is calm in the net. With Lightning already having a young talented British goalie in Jordan Hedley, in our group, adding Adam really does give us two of the best young British goalie prospects in the UK. With them training at the very top level each day, can only enhance their game further. With Glen Billing and Edward Knaggs already working within this partnership structure, this further move only strengthens our relationship with the Peterborough Phantoms organisation.”

On learning of Adams accomplishment, Janis Auzins was eager to congratulate Adam and comment on his acquisition back to Phantoms saying “I think Adam has improved very well in the last 2 seasons, and has been working hard in the summer at goalie camps in Latvia with me. I definitely think he is ready to become a number one goalie.  He is already a top 5 goalie in England and this is now his chance to improve on that with regular games.

Adam, in February this year represented GB in the World University Winter Games highlighting what a prospect Adam is to this country. Adam commented on his return and the opportunity in working with MK Lightning Signing back in Peterborough was an easy decision. Slava is giving me a great opportunity and responsibility within the team to which I am looking forward to. Slava has put together a very strong team for this season so hopefully we will have the chance of bringing home some silverware. I am also excited to be on a two-way contract with MK Lightning and can’t wait for the challenges ahead. The new league structure this season will be very competitive and exciting for everyone to watch.”
