Peterborough Phantoms 4-6 Swindon Wildcats (Aggregate: Phantoms 9-6 Wildcats)

The Peterborough DALROD Phantoms are through to the final of the Britton Conference Playoffs, following an aggregate win against the Swindon Wildcats. After last night’s game in Swindon, the LMC ruled that the Cats had used an ineligible player, and the game was awarded 5-0 in the Phantoms favour.

Ales Padelek opened the scoring for the Phantoms with the only goal of the first period, after taking a pass from Will Weldon to beat Renny Marr.

And the lead was doubled just a minute and a half into the second period, when Scott Robson found Weldon, and Weldon found the back of the Swindon net.

The game was turned on it’s head after 24 minutes, when Nathan Pollard was assessed a 5+game penalty for high sticks, from referee Paul Brooks.

The Cats made the 5 minute powerplay count, as Chris Jones scored their opening goal of the evening.

The next two goals were scored by Sam Bullas for the Wildcats, which saw them take the lead on the night, but trail 7-3 on aggregate.

It took Phantoms under a minute to level the score on the night, when Nathan Salem found the top corner of the Swindon goal.

Cats went back into the lead with under two and a half minutes played in the third, when player-coach Aaron Nell scored a delayed penalty goal for the visitors.

Nell then netted twice more in quick succession to seal his hat trick, and put the Wildcats in total control of the game.

With a couple of minutes left in the game, the visitors pulled Marr from the net in favour of an extra skater. Phantoms capitalised on that, and Salem scored his second of the game with 17 seconds left on the clock, to ensure the Phantoms would advance to the NIHL1 Britton Conference Playoff Final.

In the final, the Phantoms will take on league winners the Basingstoke Bison, and both sides qualify for the NIHL Final Four weekend in Coventry.
