The Peterborough DALROD Phantoms welcomes forward Corey McEwen to the Phantoms for the 2018/19 season.

Corey, son of Cardiff Devils and Phantoms legend Doug McEwen spent his junior career here in Peterborough, before the McEwen family moved to Canada, Dougie’s native country.

The 25-year-old British forward, has played senior hockey in the U.K previously. In 2015, Corey joined the Swindon Wildcats, but after only one season he headed to the Shropshire based Telford Tigers, where he had an outstanding season. Within this silverware winning season Corey contributed in scoring 27 goals and 30 assists.

Unfortunately, Corey did request to play #7, but as Corey would have been far too young to remember the occasion, we had to break the news and decline his request, as this jersey number has been retired by his Dad, Doug. Corey this season will be wearing #71.

We caught up with Corey, where he commented on returning to what he calls home. “I’m happy to be getting back on the ice and even more excited to wear the Phantoms jersey. I grew up in Peterborough, watched the Pirates, Phantoms while my dad played and coached, played my junior hockey there until we moved to Canada, so its home for me!”

Corey continued “I’m looking forward to being coached by Slava, I’ve heard a lot of great things about him, I want to be pushed, want to grow as a player and want to be on a team where the expectations are high. I am looking forward to helping the Phantoms achieve their goals of silverware, I had a taste of success with Telford and it feels good. I have no doubt that Slava is putting together an extremely competitive team and can’t wait to be part of it.

Coach Koulikov also commented, saying “Corey is unquestionably a top British player.  His smooth skating skills, ability to see the ice and competitive attitude, was big part of Telford winning the League in EPL.

In addition to his talent, he works hard, he takes excellent care of his fitness and I am sure he will be a great personality to have around the team.

I would like to say big thank you to Dave, Jo and Jon for making this big signing possible for us and we are all really excited to have Corey in Phantoms colours this season.”

Phantoms would like to also announce, Edward Knaggs will not be returning to the Phantoms. We thank him for all he has done in a Phantoms jersey, and wish him the best of luck for the future.

The Own & Loan is now available for Corey McEwen’s home and away jersey at £125 each.

This year we are also offering a corporate player sponsorship for businesses which will offer announcements and a social media package for as little as £500. For more information on corporate sponsorship or own & loans please contact
