Peterborough Phantoms 4-0 Invicta Dynamos

The Phantoms returned to winning ways with a comfortable victory over the Invicta Dynamos. Man of the match Petr Stepanek bagged a brace, with Corey McEwen and James White adding the other goals.

The first period was a frustrating one for the Phantoms, who failed to find the net despite racking up 20 shots on goal.

The Phantoms did have the puck in the net, but the goal was ruled out by referee Tim Pickett, as there was a man in the crease.

Former Phantoms goalie, Adam Long, made a string of saves for the Mos, most notably from Nathan Pollard, Glenn Billing and Martins Susters efforts.

Stepanek and McEwen were both denied the opening goal at the beginning of the second period as Long continued to frustrate the Phantoms. But McEwen did eventually find a way through at 32:33, taking a Susters assist to tuck the puck home on the power play.

And the lead was doubled at 35:05, when White found space in front of Long and lifted the puck into the back of the Invicta net for a second power play goal of the evening.

Stepanek was the man to give the Phantoms a three-goal advantage, capitalising on good work from Susters to squeeze the puck beyond Long.

The three goals meant the Phantoms finally had something to show for their efforts, after racking up another 25 shots in the second period.

The first chance of the third period fell to Scott Robson, who channelled his inner forward to pull a smart move, but failed to convert with the shot.

Stepanek sealed the Phantoms win with 50:38 on the clock; the Czech forward was put through on a breakaway by McEwen, and buried the puck beyond Long for a shorthanded goal for the Phantoms!

The scoring was done, but there was one more special moment in the game. 16-year-old goalie, Luke Clark, came onto the ice with 58 seconds remaining in the game, to make his debut for his hometown team!
