The Peterborough DALROD Phantoms are delighted to announce the next phase of development for the future stars of our club.

The Peterborough Phantoms 2 have completed a five-year cycle of developing some of our top local players, the team will now be going back to the start in recruiting the players that will build the future of our club. Players coming through our junior development programme will always need to gain senior hockey experience and confidence. Taking the leap from Under 18’s to the top levels will decrease the number of developed players that will be successful and go onto greater things.

Over the last five years, Phantoms 2 have developed many of the young players that today are within our current team: Robert Ferrara, Nathan Pollard, Conor Pollard, Taylor Romeo, Bradley Bowering, Ross Clarke and Nathan Long. Without this development team, many of these players wouldn’t have gained the confidence and skills in senior hockey, that enables them to compete for top spots at the highest level.

Joining Head Coach Stevie Johnson and Assistant Coach Steve Wren, will be the newly appointed Team Manager Toby Clark. Toby has a wealth of experience in managing the junior teams, making this appointment a vital link through to the prospected youth players.

Toby commented on his new appointment, saying: “I am honoured to have been asked to manage the Phantoms 2 team this season, I will be working alongside all the coaches, including Slava of the main Phantoms team and the Academy coaches.

At the minute I am working hard with Stevie and Steve to build the team for the coming season and with my knowledge of the Academy and the talent that is coming through,  it really is an exciting time ahead. I can’t wait to get started and to do all the jobs that will free the coaches to concentrate on the players and games.”

Toby’s first job is to promote and organise the up and coming player trials that Phantoms 2’s will be holding.

Toby continued to say “We are looking at a number of the Academy kids to make the step up and play some senior hockey, as well as having a number of senior players for the young members to gain experience from. The trials are being held on Sunday 28th July and Sunday 11th August and are open to all, you can attend one or both sessions.”

Over the years Phantoms 2 have produced some excellent local talent, that has seen many drafted into play at the most senior level in Peterborough.

Phantoms Head Coach Slava Koulikov, applauds the work the Phantoms 2’s do for the development of our club, saying “It’s an imperative part of every team to have a great development programme and the Phantoms 2 team is a fundamental part of this, to develop players at senior hockey level.

Players develop at different rates, a child born in January can be more advanced than those born in September (even though they are born in the same year). Giving them time and also, more importantly, the confidence within senior hockey, will help them go further in their senior careers.”

With a few of last years team moving on to new ventures, including progression into our own senior team; Phantoms National league, Phantoms 2 Head coach Stevie Johnson is also pleased to announce that at least 11 players from last years team will be returning.

Stevie commented “Its an exciting time for the Phantoms 2, as we start the cycle again to produce more talent for Slava to scout. To produce great talent and instil a competitive and a winning mentality, we will be working hard, competing hard at every game. We have a challenging road ahead with some great teams we will be facing over the season. The ones to watch will be Haringey and Bristol as they have strengthened over the summer, but we look forward to getting a great room of guys and produce some fantastic hockey.”

So if you’re a player looking for their next senior hockey challenge, we would like to welcome you to our trials on Sunday 28th July and Sunday 11th August with both sessions starting at 4.15-5.15 PM at Planet Ice Peterborough, the cost per session is £10. You can attend one session or both, but you must have emailed Toby to register your interest prior to the trials to state your attendance.
