The Peterborough DALROD Phantoms were out and about in the community last Saturday, participating in the Papa Luigi annual World Pizza Eating Competition, held at the Italian Fesitival, Cathedral Square.

Representatives from the Phantoms came from our junior academy, all the way up to the senior Phantoms team. The scene was set with an alfesco dining feel, as the Papa Luigi pizzas were placed on the tables in front of a number of participates including World Record breaker Simon “Ape’ Hearn.

As much as the delightful pizza’s tasted great, our lean sportsmen were no competition to the annual pro’s as not only did Simon “Ape” Hearn break his own record, taking 10 seconds off the longstanding record of 2 minutes 37 seconds, but the ‘Hardcore” Bearded Villains brought in professional Joey Davies to polished off a 12″ super-hot pizza in 3 minutes, 28 seconds.

Although the heavens opened to soak the contestants and many spectators looking on, the spirits weren’t dampened as fun filled the air.

We would like to say well done to organisers, Papa Luigi and thank you for inviting the Phantoms to participate in the event.
