The Wendy’s Peterborough Phantoms are excited to announce the re-signing of the club’s leading assist maker from last season, Finnish forward Janne Laakkonen!
At 43-years-old, Janne brings a wealth of experience in some of Europe’s best leagues and has been a regular high scorer throughout the duration of his career.
Having played in Finland, Sweden, Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, France, Poland, Austria, Norway and Hungary, the former Finland U20 International first arrived in England ahead of the 2019/20 season, where he linked up for the first time with Luke Ferrara at the Coventry Blaze.
A successful season followed for the pair, as Janne’s 49 points in 43 games helped Ferrara to 33 goals and 21 assists, making him the top British scorer in the Elite League that year.
He returned to the Blaze for the EIHL Series in 2020/21 and played another full season for the club the following year, where he added another 52 points in 51 games.
And after a season with the Fife Flyers and a season split between Finland and Hungary, Laakkonen arrived in Peterborough for the first time ahead of the 2024/25 season.
He immediately re-forged his connection with Ferrara and the duo built formidable chemistry with Canadian forward, Cam Hough. The three forwards finished last season as Phantoms; top three scorers, with Laakkonen finishing on 13 goals and 75 assists for 88 points in 42 regular season games.
And now, Phantoms fans can look forward to a second season of Laakkonen, as he agrees terms on a second campaign in Peterborough!
Janne said the following on his return: “I am excited to be back to the Phantoms family for a second year. Last season was fun and we were able to raise our level towards the end of the season. Our intention would be to continue where we left off and be even better than last year. I hope to see all fans back in the ice rink in September!”
And Head Coach, Ashley Tait, said: “I think getting Janne to return is credit to the club and the ambition of the directors. He keeps that continuity of personnel and his vast experience is going to be essential in enabling any success we have this year!”
