With the 2025/26 season fast approaching us, we are taking the opportunity to get to know some of our upcoming season's roster a bit better before they hit the ice at Planet Ice Peterborough in September! First up in this series is Forward Luke Ferrara!
First question we had for Luke was how he first got into ice hockey and what drew him into it, to which he responded with “I watched my brothers play and that's all I wanted to do!” Whilst Luke had mentioned his brothers, we took the opportunity to ask how it felt to play alongside his brothers all in Phantoms jerseys for so many seasons. Luke then replied with “That was the first big trophy I won and is still my favourite memory of hockey! Getting to win alongside both of my brothers is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
Before we got further into the fun questions and more about Luke’s personal achievements, we took the chance to ask him about what he is looking forward to about the upcoming season and he expressed how having the same core of players again as well as some new ideas should make for an “exciting” team for the 2025/26 season! Another thing that we thought would be interesting to ask about was Luke’s personal goals for the season and he said he was keen to beat his total points from last year and as a team he conveyed their determination to aim for more trophies as well as more consistency within the league being a big aim too.
We had a few little quick fire questions as well:
- Who was your hockey idol growing up? - “My brothers and Dad!”
- Funniest in the room?- “Norts and Salem don’t stop chirping each other every time we’re in the room, combined they’re pretty funny”
- Favourite rink to play in? (apart from Peterborough) - “I quite like playing in Coventry's rink, great atmosphere when it’s full!”
- Which NHL team do you support? - “Anaheim Ducks”
- Toughest team you’ve played against? - “Team Canada, couldn’t touch the puck haha”
- Any pre-game rituals or superstitions? - “Nothing crazy, just put my equipment on the same way every time”
Luke has played around the world in tournaments as well as in Poland and France for teams and with all these experiences across the world something we wanted to ask was what have been some of the biggest challenges and rewards of adapting to new teams while exploring new cultures? Firstly, he pointed out the fact that the language barrier of playing abroad is a big challenge to face as in his words he “never knew what was going on!” but the rewarding side was the fact he had the chance to make new friends he would never have met as well as experiencing the new cultures!
