The Wendy’s Peterborough Phantoms are delighted to announce the re-signing of fan favourite, Joe Gretton, for the 2026/27 season!
The Nottingham born utility man began his career in Nottingham and played most of his career there until his first move to Peterborough. Prior to Peterborough, his only spell outside of Nottingham was a short spell with the Northumberland Stars in Canada in 2017/18.
2019/20 saw Gretts’ first arrival in Peterborough on what was initially supposed to be on a two-way with the Phantoms’ NIHL2 side - but solid performances, an ability to play multiple positions and his physical edge saw him play the vast majority of his debut season with the main Phantoms team.
After a few seasons of playing up and down the lineup, Joe established himself as an important part of the Phantoms’ defence last term. The 28-year-old was a regular fixture in a defensive core which suffered several injuries and brought consistently solid performances when they were needed the most.
A brilliant personality on-and-off the ice, Joe is an immensely popular figure amongst his teammates, coaches, staff and the fans. He’ll now jump back in the Nottingham car and return to Planet Ice Peterborough for his seventh season with the club!
“I’m really happy to be back once again. We have some unfinished business from last season, with a solid base to build from and I know we’ll have a strong team again this year and I expect us to be in the hunt for all three trophies. The fans were on another level last season and made it so fun to play in our beautiful barn every week, I look forward to us having another great year in front of you all. Have a great summer and see you all soon!” Joe said.
And Head Coach Ashley Tait said: “It’s great to have Gretts back again. He’s the guy every room needs, always has a smile and a comment, and from a coaching perspective is fully committed whatever the ask!”
Welcome back, #35 Joe Gretton!
