The Wendy’s Peterborough Phantoms got back to winning ways as they put five past the Hull Seahawks in Sunday night’s Halloween home game.

Cam Hough and Luke Ferrara helped themselves to a pair of goals each, whilst Ralfs Circenis also found the net on a positive night for Ashley Tait’s side.

It didn’t get off to the best of starts, though, as the Seahawks took the lead with just over five minutes played. Jordan Stallard continued to be a thorn in Phantoms’ side across the weekend as he converted on the back post to add to the OTW goal he scored on Saturday night.

But it didn’t take Phantoms long to get level, as Luke Ferrara took a clever drop pass from Janne Laakkonen to find a way past Dmitri Zimozdra with 9:29 on the clock.

Hayden Lavigne was called into action to make a big point blank save on a shot from Johnny Corneil, before the Phantoms had a powerplay chance which produced good openings, but didn’t pay out with a goal.

The third goal of the game didn’t come until almost mid-way through the second period but when it did, it was a well worked effort. This time, Phantoms sprung onto the attack with a stretch pass and Laakkonen again pulled the puck back to the onrushing Ferrara, who took aim and ripped his shot into the top corner.

And they extended their lead to two just two minutes and ten seconds later. Jasper Foster was the architect, showing good hands and tenacity in the neutral zone, before finding the stretch pass to Hough, who turned, skated in and fired into the far bottom corner.

Phantoms continued to threaten as Ferrara, Ralfs Circenis and Corey McEwen all saw efforts go close as the second period headed towards its conclusion.

Circenis wasn’t to be denied a second goal in as many games though, and he struck with just seven seconds played in the third period. The Latvian born forward benefitted from good work from Richard Hartmann, who won the puck back on the blue line and sent Phantoms’ #33 racing away, before he applied a good finish.

Phantoms continued to defend well, typified by Nojus Venskutonis, who raced back to deny Owen Bruton a shot on the breakaway. His efforts were reinforced by Hough, who threw himself in the way of a huge Emil Svec slapshot.

But the Seahawks did strike again and it was Stallard once again. When Svec took aim again from the blue line, his shot was kicked out by Lavigne and fell kindly for Stallard to smash home the rebound.

Hartmann almost rounded off the scoring with a one timer after being found out in front by Corey McEwen, but Zimozdra kicked the effort away.

Hough did complete the scoring, though, as good work from Morgan Clarke-Pizzo and Janne Laakkonen saw Phantoms’ man of the match skate into the zone and fire into the empty net.
