The Wendy's Peterborough Phantoms kickstarted their weekend by defeating the Basingstoke Bison on the Hampshire club's long awaited return to home action.
The Bison started brightly and Tom Relf went close to giving them the lead when he threw one on net from the blue line, which was grabbed by Hayden Lavigne amidst a scramble out in front.
And with Jasper Foster sitting an interference penalty, they went close again on the powerplay through Luke Spadafora, but Lavigne did well to deny the Canadian forward from close range.
Phantoms grew into the period and began to threaten, with Janne Laakkonen coming close to picking out Morgan Clarke-Pizzo out in front, Max Wright was equal to it, though.
But after Lavigne denied Relf and Brendan Sellan and Richard Hartmann saw a shot saved by Wright, Phantoms took the lead through Cam Hough, who took a pass on the back door to tally his tenth of the season on the powerplay.
Phantoms killed off a penalty in the opening minute and seven seconds of the second period, before going close to a second through Hough, who was denied in close by Wright.
Jasper Foster then followed with two quick efforts - the first was kicked away by Wright and the second went just high and wide of the target.
But Phantoms did double their lead with 29:32 played, when Luke Ferrara laid it on a plate for Morgan Clarke-Pizzo to tap home from close range.
Will Stead went close with a couple of second period efforts for the Bison, before the second half of the middle period saw the sides trade powerplay chances - but neither converted, and Phantoms went into the second intermission 2-0 ahead.
Phantoms extended their lead to three with 3:33 played in the third period as Jasper Foster leapt out of the penalty box and finished well after being sent through by Corey McEwen.
The Bison then grabbed their first home goal of the season, when Brendan Sellan lifted a rebound high into the net to give the home fans something to cheer about.
But Phantoms wasted little time in extending their lead once again. Dillon Lawrence with a great finish on the rebound after Hough's shot had been saved.
And Lawrence picked up his second of the evening to round off the scoring with another smart finish, after Phantoms had broke 3-on-1 and Hough had again come up with the assist.
