The Wendy’s Peterborough Phantoms are delighted to announce the signing of Canadian forward, Dillon Lawrence, from the Milton Keynes Lightning!

Lawrence is no stranger to British hockey and has actually played most of his career on British soil. He began in his native Canada, icing through junior hockey in Toronto, before spending three years in the NCAA with Boston University.

The 6ft 3” forward’s arrival in Britain happened in 2017/18, when he signed for the Edinburgh Capitals, who were in the Elite League at the time. He scored six points in his debut season in pro-hockey, before jetting off to Australia to add 33 points in 21 games for Melbourne in the Australian Ice Hockey League.

He was picked up by the Coventry Blaze ahead of 2018/19 and spent two seasons at the Skydome, where he lined up alongside Luke Ferrara and Janne Laakkonen.

2019/20 was the more profitable of his two years in Coventry, as he scored ten and assisted 13 for 23 points in 44 regular season games.

From there, he had a brief spell in France, with Dunkerque, before returning to Britain again to ice for the Dundee Stars and Fife Flyers in 2021/22 and 2022/23 respectively.

His first step into the NIHL then occurred, when he signed with the Milton Keynes Lightning ahead of 2023/24. He had a brilliant first season in MK, notching 45 goals and 41 assists for 86 points in 46 regular season games.

And last term, the 30-year-old was promoted into a leadership role, wearing an A as he added another 21 goals and 15 assists for 36 points in 31 regular season games. He grabbed an assist against the Phantoms in the 2024/25 NIHL National Playoff Final after scoring the overtime winner against Leeds in the Semi-Final.

Lawrence said the following on his signing with Phantoms: “It’s exciting to see the league improving, and it’s no coincidence that this team has been consistently competing for trophies. I’m looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish this season.”

“The fans always made Peterborough a tough environment to play in, so I am happy to now be on the right side of the noise.” He concluded.

And Phantoms’ Head Coach, Ashley Tait, said: “Dillon‘s addition is a big one for us. He’s well versed with the league so knows what’s required for the role. He knows Janne and Luke already and is also coming from a team that won the play offs last year which is a big plus.”
