The Wendy’s Peterborough Phantoms are delighted to announce the re-signing of popular local defenceman, Billy Thorpe, on a two-year extension.
The 21-year-old Great Britain U18 and U20 international first took steps into the senior Phantoms team in 2021/22 and has been a mainstay in the team for the majority of the time since.
He’s impressed fans with his consistently solid performances, excelling on the club’s top defensive lines and clocking more minutes per game than ever before.
Billy has also benefitted from experience with the Coventry Blaze in the Elite League, but it’s at his hometown club where he’s really made his mark. Two goals and nine assists put Billy just a point behind his career best season, but his performances have undoubtedly been the best of his career to far.
And now, he’s re-signed with the Wendy’s Peterborough Phantoms for the next two years!
“Really happy to be back in Peterborough for the next two seasons, it’s been the perfect opportunity for me to develop my game as a player here over the last five seasons and can’t wait for that to continue for another two years! We have got a big push for play offs coming up and I’m already excited for next season! Thanks for the support this year phantoms fans we are gonna need you going into this important end of the season to have a success full playoff run and hopefully bring back some more silverware to Peterborough!” Billy said.
Whilst Head Coach, Ashley Tait, said: “Billy coming back is great news for us. Where he started the season and where he is now are worlds apart. He’s really had to step up due to the injuries we’ve had at the back and leads our D for minutes some nights.”
