The Waldeck Peterborough Phantoms are delighted to announce the signing of Leo Markey from a prospect to a senior contract for the 23/24 season.

The 18-year-old forward has impressed Head Coach Slava Koulikov over the past 2 seasons, so has been awarded his first senior contract with the club.

Leo started his career in the Peterborough junior system, with a brief spell in the Streatham development system from 2018-2020, before returning to complete his junior years with the Phantoms juniors.

Last season, Leo played in 3 different leagues; National League with the Phantoms, NIHL 1 with the Raiders/Chelmsford Cheiftains and NIHL 2 with Phantoms 2. Splitting his time across the 3 leagues has enabled Leo to get a lot of valuable ice time, which has lead to his great progression this year. Leo is a great player to have come through the Phantoms junior system, and we look forward to further developing him this season.

Head Coach Slava Koulikov commented: “Leo is a fast and nippy player on the ice, who plays the modern style of hockey with speed. He has a great natural goal scoring ability which has seen him score 6 points from 10 games last season with us. One of the goals I remember most, is when Leo scored a great goal in Leeds against Gospel in his first season for us. I am very happy to have signed Leo on his first senior contract and look forward to working with and developing him as a player.”

Leo Markey commented: “ I am really excited to be back next season. I learnt a lot last season from Slava and the rest of the team and I’m grateful to be back in a position where I can continue on from what I learnt last season and keep improving my game. I can’t wait to play in front of the fans again and battle for another trophy next season.”
