The Waldeck Peterborough Phantoms came out victorious against the Bees on Saturday night.

It was the Phantoms who hit the front early, as Glenn Billing received the puck when all alone in front of net and ripped his effort into the top corner.

The second quickly followed. When Ryan Webb took a tripping penalty, Brad Bowering found Corey McEwen in the middle of the zone, and his one timer found its way past the Bees goalie.

The Bees did create a few chances in the first, but Ryan Bainborough stood tall to deny the shots which reached him.

And the Phantoms’ lead was extended to three in the final minute of the period, as Lukas Sladkovsky continued his impressive scoring season in Phantoms colours.

The Bees got the second period scoring underway with a big powerplay slapshot from the left circle, which left Bainborough with no chance.

But after a frustrating time of things for the Phantoms, littered with penalties, they did eventually restore their three goal lead. And it was McEwen who scored it, taking a face off win from Sladkovsky to finish past the goalie with ease.

That concluded the period’s scoring, but there was another incident as Joe Gretton and JJ Pitchley dropped the gloves.

Juha Lindgren brought the Bees back to within two with 4:56 played in the third period, capitalising on some lapse Phantoms defending to rip an effort home from the centre of the zone.

Phantoms hit back again with former Phantom Alan Lack sitting a double minor for high sticking. It was Ralfs Circenis who found the net, potting home from a tight angle, assisted by Bowering and Sladkovsky.

But the Bees weren’t going quietly and it was import forward Dominik Gabaj who reduced the arrears once again. His shot found the top corner of Bainborough’s net to make the score 5-3.

Phantoms held on for the 5-3 win ahead of an away trip to Sheffield tomorrow afternoon. Face off for that one will be at 1pm.
