MATCH REPORT | PHANTOMS PICK UP WIN IN ONLY GAME OF THE WEEKEND

The Waldeck Peterborough Phantoms claimed a comfortable victory against a depleted Basingstoke Bison side on Sunday night.

It took the Phantoms just over eight and a half minutes to hit the front, but when Lukas Sladkovsky moved into space near the goal, he found an unmarked Corey McEwen on the back post for a simple tap in.

And the second quickly followed, as the Phantoms top line linked up for Ales Padelek to score, assisted by Glenn Billing and Duncan Speirs.

Padelek doubled his tally on the night to score Phantoms third, smashing a laser home from the blue line with a one timer.

Number four came on the powerplay, as captain Will Weldon found Glenn Billing out in front, and he found a way past Alex Metttam.

With a comfortable lead, Phantoms opted to leave Brad Bowering and Padelek in the locker room ahead of the second period, affording more ice time to the players further down the line up.

Lukas Sladkovsky opened the second period scoring, taking a McEwen assist to beat Mettam from the middle of the offensive zone.

Ryan Bainborough then replaced Jordan Marr in the Phantoms net.

Jasper Foster added his name to the scoresheet with 35:01 played, by receiving the puck from an offensive zone face off, working the space to shoot and ripping it into the back of the net.

Sladkovsky then grabbed his second of the night after more good work between himself and McEwen, to put the Phantoms 7-0 up.

Bison got themselves on the board as Edgars Landsbergs skated in and finished well past Bainborough.

Sladkovsky stayed in the Phantoms locker room following the second period, as Phantoms went for an all Brit look to their third period.

But the Bison picked up the first third period goal. With Luc Johnson sitting a penalty, Ollie Hemmings Maher found a way past Bainborough for the powerplay goal.

But Phantoms hit straight back as Leo Markey teed up McEwen, who finished well past Jordan Lawday – the Bison goalie for the third period.

Goal number nine came for the Phantoms just as the Bison returned to full strength. Speirs adding a goal to his collection of assists from close range.

McEwen then completed his hat-trick, skating in close at speed before ripping his shot into the back of the net.

Speirs added goal eleven, tapping home a rebound after Markey went close.
