MATCH REPORT | PHANTOMS WIN IN SUNDAY NIGHT GOAL FEST

The Waldeck Peterborough Phantoms finished off another four point weekend with a win in a seventeen goal thriller on home ice.

After a bright start to the game, Phantoms made their pressure pay as the top line went to work. Ales Padelek’s shot was saved, by Glenn Billing batted the rebound home for the opener.

It took until almost the middle of the second period for the next goal to go in and it was the Phantoms who got it. With Alex Roberts sitting a high sticking penalty, Tom Norton found space in the left circle to rip his shot into the far top corner.

But the Raiders hit straight back with a powerplay goal of their own. With Martins Susters in the box, Aaron Connolly notched a close range tap in to half the deficit.

Phantoms hit straIght back just 66 second later through Padelek, who collected his third point of the evening by applying the finishing touch to Billing’s effort.

It turned out to be a frantic few minutes and it was the Raiders who struck next, Connolly picking up his second with an effort which went in off the pipework to reduce the Phantoms’ lead back to one.

But Phantoms did go into the second intermission with a two goal lead, courtesy of their second line. Susters, Lukas Sladkovsky and Corey McEwen went tic-tac-toe for #71 to make it 4-2 on the night he was named Phanforce Player of the Month for November.

And Slava’s side came out flying in the third, as Callum Buglass scored with 41 seconds played in the period.

Just six seconds later, Susters had his first goal since his Phantoms return, taking an assist from Scott Robson to make it 6-2.

Jasper Foster added Phantoms’ seventh, which saw Ethan James remove himself from the Raiders net, replaced by Brad WIndebank.

That goal also prompted a change in goal for Phantoms, as Tyler De La Bertouche replaced Jordan Marr for his senior Phantoms debut.

Number eight came through Duncan Speirs, who scored on the powerplay, assisted by Padelek and Billing.

Raiders got on the comeback trail though, as Tjay Anderson pulled one back, before Alex Roberts made it 8-4.

Roberts made it 8-5 with 10 minutes to play from close range.

But Foster got Phantoms moving again by smashing in a ninth goal on 51 minutes.

But Roberts sealed his hat-trick with just over seven and a half minutes to play in the third.

Padelek slammed home Phantoms’ tenth of the game in what was turning out to surely be the highest scoring period in NIHL history.

Lost count? Final score was 10-7!
