The Waldeck Peterborough Phantoms comfortably saw off the Hull Seahawks on Saturday night.
After a couple of near misses, the Phantoms hit the front with a goal which was purely the work of Ralfs Circenis. Phantoms’ #34 won the puck back on his defensive blue line, skated in on the breakaway and pulled a move which beat Jordan McLaughlin.
And their lead was doubled on 6:47, when Duncan Speirs found an unmarked Tom Norton on the back door, who went five-hole for the powerplay goal.
The third also came on the powerplay, this time scored by Glenn Billing. Speirs again with the assist, as his blue line effort was tipped home by the Phantoms’ first line centre.
Hull got one back through Lee Pollitt towards the end of the period but Phantoms went into the break with a two goal lead.
And they came out for the second and almost immediately restored the three goal lead. Circenis adding his second of the game with a one timer through the five hole.
Lukas Sladkovsky then added his name to the scoresheet, finding the top corner for another powerplay goal.
Hull got another back on 34:06, as Jordan Fisher applied the finishing touch from close range.
But Phantoms answered straight back again as Speirs got the goal his performance had been deserving. The Scottish forward pulled a toe-drag past the defenceman, before ripping an unstoppable effort into the bottom corner.
And the third period began in similar fashion to the two which proceeded it. Ales Padelek received a good feed from Billing and ripped home beyond Dominic Smith with just over a minute and a half played in the final period.
Former Phantom Nathan Salem pulled one back for the Seahawks from the right circle, with Luc Johnson sitting a tripping penalty.
But Leo Markey grabbed himself a goal with 52:24 played, capitalising on saved Jarvis Hunt effort to notch the rebound for 8-3.
Number nine came courtesy of more great work by the Phantoms top line, as Billing found Padelek, Padelek went to the backhand and found the unmarked Speirs on the back door to cap off a well worked team goal.
