The Waldeck Peterborough Phantoms defeated local rivals Milton Keynes Lightning on Sunday night.
After a penalty apiece for each side which came up fruitless, it was the Phantoms who hit the front with a moment of magic from the top line. When Glenn Billing cleverly fed Duncan Speirs, the Scottish forward ripped his shot into the bottom corner.
But the lead didn’t last long as MKL hit straight back, and it was former Phantom Ed Knaggs who found a shooting lane and the shot found its way into the net.
And then sparked a frantic few minutes of goalscoring. First, Tom Norton put the Phantoms back in front with well worked goal, only for Deivids Sarkanis to tie the game 22 seconds later.
And moments after, Sam Talbot pulled a smart move in front of Marr to work the shooting angle, a shot which found the net.
Nathan Pollard drew Phantoms level again with 22:33 played, taking a Norton pass to go backhand five-hole on the breakaway.
Then, with 31:13 played, Phantoms notched a powerplay marker to put themselves 4-3 ahead. Brad Bowering scored it from in close after a good assist by Corey McEwen.
But Milton Keynes came out fast in the third and quickly tied the game once again. Sarkanis with his second of the night on a powerplay.
The fifth Phantoms goal came courtesy of Jasper Foster, as he scrambled the puck over the line amidst a melee near the net.
And number six was a great short hander. When Billing was sprung on the attack by Bowering, he found Speirs all alone on the back door for a tap in.
Lukas Sladkovsky then rounded of the scoring with a goal of the season contender as he took as pass from McEwen, went round James Griffin, before switching to the backhand in front of Hedley and tucking it home one handed.
