The Waldeck Peterborough Phantoms suffered defeat on Sunday night at the hands of the Leeds Knights.
Phantoms were missing several of the regular fixtures in their team. Captain Will Weldon and import Ales Padelek were out, whilst Brad Bowering and Jasper Foster didn’t make it much past the end of the first period due to injuries.
They did start the game well though, and took a first minute lead when Luke Ferrara applied the finishing touch to a nice move involving Callum Buglass and Duncan Speirs.
Phantoms tried to build on their early lead and did create a few more chances in what looked to be a promising first period, but found Sam Gospel in usual good form in the Knights’ goal.
Unfortunately, that turned out to be as good as it got for Phantoms, as the Knights levelled just under three minutes into the second period, courtesy of Mac Howlett.
And the Knights hit the front when Kieran Brown blocked a shot on his own blue line, skated in and found the net for a shorthanded goal.
Noah McMullin made it three on 28:54, firing home through traffic from the blue line.
A frustrating night for Phantoms was capped when Howlett and Brown combined again, as Brown spun a pass out in front for Howlett to score from in close to seal the visitors’ win.
Phantoms face two away games next weekend as they visit Sheffield on Saturday and Swindon on Sunday.
Their next home game is against the Bristol Pitbulls on Sunday 21st January.
