A Waldeck Peterborough Phantoms side depleted by injury were comfortably beaten by the league leading Leeds Knights on Sunday night.

They did start brightly, though, and could have had the lead when Ivan Björkly Nordström’s effort was kicked out to Connor Glossop, but he didn’t get the connection he wanted on his shot and it looped up and into the glove of Sam Gospel.

Leeds went in front on 5:24 when Fin Bradon placed a nice pass to the back post and Matt Barron was there to squeeze the puck into the net between Jordan Marr and the goalpost.

Lukas Sladkovsky then had a good chance to level the scores, but saw his effort go just over the bar.

Mac Howlett made it two at 10:48, tapping home into an empty net after more good work by Bradon.

Matt Barron increased the Knights’ lead to three with a matter of seconds remaining in the first period, firing bar down from the right circle.

The second period didn’t have much in the way of high scoring chances and it took until the closing moments of the frame for the puck to find the net again.

Unfortunately for Phantoms, it was the Knights who found it - Kieran Brown adding a power play marker for the visitors with a big slap shot from the right circle.

And it was the same man at the start of the third period who scored in similar fashion. Brown from the right circle making it five for the Knights.

Finn Bradon then notched the goal his performance had deserved, by taking a cross crease pass from Dylan Hehir and lifting it into the roof of the net.

Oli Endicott rounded off the scoring with an effort from in close after a good centring pass by Matt Haywood.
