The WALDECK Peterborough Phantoms travelled to Bristol on Saturday to start the doubleheader against the Pitbulls.

In the first 30 seconds of the game, Elliot Lewis secured the first goal for the Pitbulls. However, Duncan Speirs, Cam Hough and Callum Buglass all took a shot at Pitbulls’ goalie Tommy Nappier. Lewis tried to make another chance for himself but defenceman Scott Robson saw through his plan and dispossessed him.

Bayley Harewood boarded Connor Glossop, this caught the attention of Tom Norton who didn’t agree with the hit, and both Norton and Harewood pursued handbags. Whilst trying to tap home a goal, Jarvis Hunt was cross-checked by Reece Cochrane and he was handed a two minute penalty - Hunt managed to get his revenge as he assisted on the Phantom’s first goal scored by Hough. Inspired by his teammates, Nathan Salem found his opportunity to breakaway from the Pitbulls and wrap around Nappier’s net and score the second goal for the Phantoms, less than 30 seconds later than Hough’s goal.

In the second period, the Pitbulls were able to put seven pucks behind Hayden Lavigne, these were scored by: Ewan Hill, Rhys Smetham (x3), Mason Lipsey, Bari McKenzie, and Bayley Harewood. Despite the high amount of conceded goals, the Phantoms tried their best to stop the Pitbulls’ plans - with Hough body blocking a shot coming from Jay King, additionally, Robson made his way into multiple Pitbulls’ shooting lanes to prevent any further attacks. After the 39-minute mark, Cam Hamill and Lavigne had an altercation behind the net, which led to a full-line brawl between the sides.

At the beginning of period three, Luke Clark took over from Lavigne. Phantoms didn’t give up on their chances with Luke Ferrara and Speirs shooting at Nappier. Pryce was able to gain his second of the night when he shot the puck past Clark. Jasper Foster and Harewood tussled on the ice throwing each other onto the ice, causing Foster to be handed 2+2 for roughing and Harewood to receive 2 minutes for roughing - this powerplay allowed the Pitbulls to hit double digits through Tanner Butler. Just under 10 minutes left in the game, the Phantoms weren’t ready to give up, as Hunt scored the third goal for the Phantoms.
