The Waldeck Peterborough Phantoms fell short on Saturday night, losing out in overtime to the Swindon Wildcats.

Phantoms started well and Louie Kynaston went close to his first Phantoms senior goal, but Renny Marr did well to stop his effort.

Ivan Björkly Nordstöm then went close with two efforts inside a minute, but the first was saved and the second went just wide.

Ales Padelek put Phantoms ahead with five and a half minutes played, smashing a shot past R. Marr and into the back of the net.

But Swindon hit back just under three minutes later as former Phantom Eddie Bebris took a pass from Colby Tower to score on the backhand.

Callum Buglass put Phantoms back in front with a good strike from the blue line after impressive work from the Phantoms’ fourth line.

And it was 3-1 early in the second period as Martins Susters found the back of the net from the left circle.

Swindon battled back though and after Aaron Nell scored on 23:59, Balint Pakozdi tipped home a Bebris blue liner to level the scores.

Nell’s side led for the first time with just under ten minutes to play as Chris Jones capitalised on a goal mouth scramble to poke the puck into the net.

Lukas Sladkovsky sent the game into overtime by scoring with just under eight minutes to play, smashing home a one timer from the right circle on the powerplay.

Phantoms fans have become accustomed to seeing Glenn Billing score overtime winners in Peterborough but unfortunately, this time he was doing it for Swindon. The former Phantoms man took the pass from Tomasz Malasinski to score from in close and put the game to bed for the visitors.

Phantoms are back on home ice tomorrow evening as the Milton Keynes Lightning visit Planet Ice Peterborough in the second part of a double home game weekend for Slava Koulikov’s side.
