The Wendy’s Peterborough Phantoms are happy to announce the return of homegrown defenceman, Billy Thorpe, for the 2025/26 season!
The 20-year-old began his career in his hometown and has progressed through the Phantoms junior system, all the way into the senior squad. He’s another who has shown ability and maturity beyond his years, having quickly established himself as a key part of Phantoms’ defensive core.
He’s represented Great Britain at U18 and U20 level and was part of the captaincy team in his most recent trip away with GB U20’s in Croatia in January.
He’s iced over 200 times for the senior Phantoms side, whilst also having appearances with the Phantoms NIHL2 team, and the Chelmsford Chieftains on his CV.
But most impressively, Billy was signed on a two-way deal by the EIHL Coventry Blaze ahead of the 2024/25 season, allowing him to skate more regularly and develop alongside some well established players within the sport. And he had a successful time of it, finding the back of the net in one of his first outings in Blaze colours.
And he now returns to the Phantoms lineup for season five with the senior Phantoms team.
“Returning next year was an easy decision for me, I love playing here in Peterborough and growing up and playing here as a kid makes it extra special to put the jersey on every week. I look forward to seeing what we can achieve next year and hopefully we can right the wrong of last years play off final. Can’t wait to get going - see you in September Phantoms fans!” Billy said.
